ALL IN: 7 DAYS OF AMAZING ADVENTURES
SPITSBERGEN – AMAZING ARCTIC IN WINTER SCENERY
An adventurous expedition into the heart of the incredible Arctic, which is unique in its winter scenery. Bitter cold, temperatures dropping to -30 degrees, and we traverse this challenging terrain on snowmobiles, on foot, and with dog sledges. In a week, we' ll extract the best and most unique experiences Spitsbergen has to offer.
We will explore Longyearbyen, Barentsburg, and Pyramiden, and also reach an ice cave. The days will be long and intense, and in the evening, we will still be on the lookout for the Northern Lights.
ICE CAVE AND OPTIONAL SHIP TO THE FROZEN FJORD
Today, we will enter the glacier and the ice cave. We will explore a unique ice cave with breathtaking, meandering corridors. The entire trek will take about 5 hours, and during the walk, we will be able to admire stunning views. Optionally, you can participate in a cruise to the frozen Billefjord, where, if conditions permit, we will step onto the ice to get even closer to nature. There is a chance to spot walruses, seals, and perhaps a polar bear.
SNOWMOBILES TO BARENTSBURG
We check out from the hotel (we can leave some belongings there) and head to Barentsburg, a settlement located by the Grønfjorden, inhabited by about 300 people. On the way, we will visit Colesbukta, a place from where coal was transported 60 years ago. After a few hours, we will reach Barentsburg, where we will stay overnight. We will tour the town and drink beer from the local brewery.
SNOWMOBILES BARENTSBURG - LONGYEARBYEN
Morning walk around the town and dog sledding. We will be like true Arctic explorers traversing vast expanses with dog sleds. Then we prepare the snowmobiles and return, most likely via a different route than we came, but as always, this depends on weather conditions and avalanche risks. In the evening, a walk around Longyearbyen and rest before another long and demanding day on snowmobiles. We sleep only one night in the same hotel as on the first day.
SNOWMOBILES LONGYEARBYEN - PYRAMIDEN
We check out again in the morning and head towards Pyramiden, the " ghost town.& quot; Pyramiden was abandoned in 1998, and now only a few people live there: hotel staff and guides. Incredible views along the way and a long route through the glacier and picturesque valleys. In the evening, a walk around the town and well-deserved rest in the hotel.
Morning tour of Pyramiden and the interior of several buildings where time stopped over 40 years ago. Then return to Longyearbyen and return the snowmobiles and clothing. We plan to return via a different route to see the Fredheim cabin, and the Tunabreen glacier, and drive over the frozen fjord. Evening dinner in Longyearbyen.
