DOG SLEDDING TO THE ICE CAVE
ABOUT
You will be picked up by the guide and taken to Green Dog's kennel in Bolterdalen, where you will be given warm clothes for the trip. The kennel is located 12 kilometres outside Longyearbyen, and here you will receive thorough instruction in dog sledding, as well as help with harnessing the dogs. You drive 2 and 2 on each dog team in the beautiful Bolterdalen and share driving the sled and sitting on it. Forrest drives the guide in teams of two guests. You stop at the exciting ice cave, hidden in a glacier, and explore the cave while the dogs rest.
In the summer, the ice cave is a rushing river of meltwater and you will see how the water has cut through and created fine formations in the thousand-year-old ice. After the visit to the ice cave, we eat a light lunch in our tent. After this, we harness the dogs again and start the journey home. The dogs have rested and it's back to the kennel at a fast pace.
