WILDLIFE – SPITSBERGEN TREASURE
GET EVEN CLOSER TO A WILD ADVENTURE ON SPITSBERGEN.
The nature of Spitsbergen is both breathtaking and incredibly fragile. Summer is short, and changes can be observed daily, making it an amazing experience. We embark on our Wildlife" expedition at the beginning of July, when summer is in full swing, the snow has long melted, young birds have hatched, and Arctic foxes are foraging for food. The tundra dazzles with vibrant colours, walruses bask on the beach, reindeer gather supplies for winter, and whales swim in Isfjord. This is the best time for photography and experiencing wildlife. We will spend 7 days in Spitsbergen.
PYRAMIDEN
We sail to Pyramiden, an abandoned town also known as the "ghost town." It is home to the northernmost statue of Lenin. At its peak, the town housed over 1,000 people, mainly miners. We will explore abandoned buildings such as the school, sports center, and cafeteria. The flora here is slightly different than around Longyearbyen, as black soil from Ukraine was brought here to grow vegetables for the residents.
TRIP TO BJORNDALEN + ADVENTDALEN
The beautiful Bjorndalen Valley, with its rich tundra, remnants of a mine, and summer cottages, is simply stunning. In good weather, we will have a wonderful view of distant glaciers. After Bjorndalen, we will head in the other direction, to the end of Adventdalen, up to mine number 7, where we will have a wonderful view of this vast valley. On this day, we will cover all available roads ☺
